Blinded, randomised, controlled trial in Stockholm, Sweden (April 2012 to December 2013); a mobile-phone positioning system activated with ambulance, fire and police dispatch located CPR-trained lay volunteers within 500 m of an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest and either dispatched them or not; 9828 volunteers were recruited overall and the system was activated in 667 arrests (46% intervention, 54% control). Desfecho
Bystander-initiated CPR before arrival of ambulance, fire and police services; secondary outcomes were return of spontaneous circulation, initial cardiac rhythm and 30-day survival.
ResultadoBystander-initiated CPR occurred in 62% (188/305) with volunteer dispatch versus 48% (172/360) without (absolute difference 14 percentage points, 95% CI 6 to 21; P<0.001), corresponding to an NNT of about 7. Secondary outcomes including return of spontaneous circulation, initial rhythm and 30-day survival did not differ significantly.
