Psychosis and schizophrenia in adults: prevention and management (NICE guideline CG178)
CG178 is the guideline that made cognitive behavioural therapy for psychosis (CBTp) and family intervention a universal offer rather than an optional extra: every adult with psychosis or schizophrenia should be offered both alongside antipsychotic medication. It also covers antipsychotic choice and the physical-health monitoring that goes with it, early intervention services, and clozapine in treatment-resistant illness. Its 2025 exceptional surveillance reviewed — and declined to add — metacognitive therapy. The 2014 CBTp and meta-analytic trials in our register appeared alongside or after the guideline and are listed separately.
This guideline cites 4 of the 62 landmark trials in our Psychiatry & psychotherapy register.
