Self-harm: assessment, management and preventing recurrence (NICE guideline NG225)
NG225 replaced the two older self-harm guidelines and made one structural break with past practice: risk-assessment tools and scales must not be used to predict future self-harm or suicide, or to decide who gets treatment. Assessment is instead a psychosocial one built on need and safety planning. For recurrence it recommends a CBT-informed psychological intervention specific to self-harm, and dialectical behaviour therapy for adults with repeated self-harm — the register trials below map onto exactly those recommendations.
This guideline cites 5 of the 62 landmark trials in our Psychiatry & psychotherapy register.
