Generalised anxiety disorder and panic disorder in adults: management (NICE guideline CG113)
CG113 organises generalised anxiety disorder into a four-step care pathway — identification and education, low-intensity self-help, high-intensity CBT or applied relaxation or an SSRI, then specialist input — and treats panic disorder along the same logic, with CBT and SSRIs as the two effective options. Benzodiazepines are explicitly not recommended for either condition beyond short-term crisis use. The register trials below sit under the psychological arm; the 2024 network meta-analysis of GAD treatments postdates the guideline by more than a decade.
This guideline cites 1 of the 62 landmark trials in our Psychiatry & psychotherapy register.
