KDIGO 2024 Clinical Practice Guideline for the Evaluation and Management of Chronic Kidney Disease

The KDIGO 2024 guideline is the first full revision of the CKD framework since 2012. It keeps the CGA (cause–GFR–albuminuria) staging, adds cystatin C to eGFR confirmation, endorses the KFRE risk equations for referral and planning, and — the substantive change — builds a layered kidney-protective regimen around RAS blockade, SGLT2 inhibition, nonsteroidal MRA and statins. Since March 2026 a focused update of Chapter 3 (delaying progression and managing CKD complications) has been under way, re-examining SGLT2 inhibitors, nonsteroidal MRAs and GLP-1 receptor agonists specifically in CKD without type-2 diabetes; diabetic CKD is being handled separately by the Diabetes work group.
